What Is Scrip?

Parkview Band families and friends can now raise money without selling! In tough economic times, it is extremely difficult to collect money using traditional fundraisers. Our new Scrip Fundraiser uses gift cards for everyday purchases you would make anyway – like food, clothing, gas and other essentials – and with every purchase, you earn revenue for your child and the Parkview Band. This will run yearround, giving you continuous opportunity to continue building your personal fund and helping the band.


Great Lakes Scrip Program

The Parkview Band has teamed up with Great Lakes Scrip Program, who buys large amounts of gift cards at a discount from leading retailers like WalMart, Old Navy, Shell, Pizza Hut, Red Lobster, and many more. Parkview Band buys the gift cards from Great Lakes Scrip Center at a discount, and resells the certificates to you for full face value. The discount – from 2 to 15% or more – is revenue for you and the Band. The revenue split is 85% to your student for band trips and dues, and 15% to the band general fund.


How Does It Work?

For example, if you know that you are going to buy $25 worth of gas, you could purchase a gas gift card for $25 and the band would profit a percentage from that sale. You spend $25 and you get a $25 gift card in return. You lose nothing! The percentages change depending on the retailer. During holiday seasons, many of the retailers offer extra percentages as incentives to get your business – and you’ll see these special offers when you log in to Great Lakes Scrip for ordering.


How Easy Is It?

Parkview Band Boosters uses a free online web program called “Shop with Scrip”. This program allows families to place their orders on line for scrip cards. The orders are held in a queue until the coordinator releases the order upon receipt of your payment. The program has the following advantages:

  • It allows families to place orders in the system on line, any time?
  • It tracks your order history. You can see for yourself how many dollars you have in Scrip. We can easily get a summary report at the end of the year? and
  • It will minimize keystroke entries and errors made by the coordinator.


Participating Retailers

The list of participating retailers and their percent discounts (i.e., your profit) can be found at www.shopwithscrip.com – look under “Shop” near the top of the web page. This list is updated on a continuous basis as new retailers join or percentages change. You will use this list to choose which gift cards you want when you place your order.


Getting Started!

  1. Create an account at www.shopwithscrip.com under the “Family Sign Up!” Use the Parkview Band enrollment code: E1F973E321777.

  2. Review available Scrip from your Family Page, and order the Scrip you would like.

  3. There are two ways to pay for your gift cards:
    • Pay online using PrestoPay™ (register on “shop with scrip” a small 35 cent fee per order),
      OR
    • Write a single check for your order to: Parkview Band Boosters. Send the printed order summary form (shown after you confirm your order online) and your check in with your student to be placed in the band room orange box, or mail the form and check directly to:

  4. Checks will be picked up the first and third Thursday of every month after school, and orders will be placed on the next day.

  5. When your order comes in (usually in less than a week), you will be emailed and the scrip cards will be sent home with your student. Contact Becky Stevens if you would like to make other arrangements for pickup.
